Wilkes County · North Carolina
Fourteen acres, a pond, and wine country
Part of the appeal here is how rural it is: woods, a pond, and fourteen acres of quiet. None of this is cause for worry, and none of it is unusual for the North Carolina foothills.
The pond and dock are private and unguarded. Keep children within arm's reach near the water, watch your footing on the dock when it's wet, and don't swim alone.
Common in tall grass and along wooded trail edges in warm months. Use repellent on your ankles and legs before walking the trail, and do a quick check when you come in.
Copperheads live in this part of the state and are occasionally seen around woodpiles, rocks, and the water's edge, most often at dusk in warm weather. They're not aggressive. Watch where you step, carry a light after dark, and give any snake a wide berth.
Wilkes County issues burn bans in dry spells, and they're enforced, not advisory. A ban covers the firepit too. Check the current status before lighting, and we'll let you know if one is declared during your stay.
Summer thunderstorms can knock the power out briefly. The farmhouse is on a well with an electric pump, so no power means no running water until it returns. Keep a jug filled if a big storm is forecast, and message us if it stays off.
Essential services close to the property.
Out here the good food is a short drive away: Jonesville and Elkin, both about twenty minutes away. Closest first. Small-town kitchens keep short hours, so call ahead early in the week.
The gas station at the end of the road, with a Subway and Hunt Brothers Pizza inside. Not a destination, but it's three minutes away and it's open when you've just arrived and don't want to drive anywhere.
Closest Food · 3 MinutesSmoked barbecue and ribs, carry-out friendly. Good for bringing dinner back to the porch.
Carry-Out FriendlyA historic NASCAR track, a sporting club in the Brushy Mountains, golf, and a granite dome. Our owners' own picks, plus a few of ours.
285 acres in the Brushy Mountains with sporting clays, five stand, skeet, trap, archery, hiking, mountain biking, and fly fishing. Kelly and Tracey Dickson run it, and both are NSCA-certified instructors, so first-timers are in good hands. A favorite of our owners.
Owner's Pick · Lessons AvailableThe historic five-eighths-mile oval, one of NASCAR's original tracks, brought back to life and hosting NASCAR again. The NASCAR All-Star Race weekend returns in May 2027, and the track runs smaller race nights through the fall. Check the schedule before your stay.
Owner's Pick · Check the ScheduleA 600-foot bare granite dome and National Natural Landmark, with about twenty miles of trails, trout streams, and the restored Hutchinson Homestead. The trail at the main waterfall stairs is closed for replacement, so check the park's trail page before you plan a day around the falls.
Owner's Pick · Free EntryYou're inside the Swan Creek AVA, North Carolina's second federally recognized wine region (2008), between the Yadkin River and the Brushy Mountains. Five nearby, closest first. Most tasting rooms close early in the week; Piccione is open every day, and Raffaldini every day but Tuesday. For more, see the Wilkes County wine map: wilkescountytourism.com/wine-map.
“Chianti in the Carolinas.” A Tuscan-style villa on 32 estate acres making Italian varietals only, including wines from dried grapes in the Appassimento style. The terrace view over the vines is the reason people come back. Food trucks and charcuterie, no full restaurant.
The Must-VisitThe Yadkin runs slow and shallow through here, forgiving for a first paddle, and the streams up toward the mountains hold some of the best trout water in the state.
Guided wade trips for trout on the Mitchell River and Big Elkin Creek, and smallmouth float trips on the Yadkin and New Rivers, with instruction for beginners. Call Marty to set up a trip. You'll need a North Carolina fishing license.
